Article 3- “Fear Of A Black President.” By: Coates, Ta-nehisi The author claims it not whether we are born equal; however the real question is does the white community have the entitlement to dominate politically and culturally? Coates agrees that they do have the right because whites have always been the, “advanced race.” The author states throughout the article that we fear the central change that has occurred in the oval office, Obama being the president. He supports this by using evidence; for example, after the election rallies for the nascent Tea Party broke out; protesters saying, “Obama plans white slavery.” Furthermore, using direct racial assault refers to Barack as an illegitimate president. Introducing the “birther bills” Coates presents an informative essay of the article. Although he does include his opinion in certain areas of this article; he does support his statements with evidence. Throughout the article he uses variety of rhetorical devices such as: alliteration, personification, allusion, antithesis, and etc. This is a well written essay and has exceptional creditability. Article 2- “Never argue wit a man with a gun.” By: Mosley Walter The author claims that if it was not for the media we would not perceive George Zimmerman to be who we think he is, in the case of Trayvon Martin. He argues that the media picks and chooses what the nation gets to see it does present the entire story only bits and pieces. Furthermore, there are no excuses for these prohibitions and exceptions. This only results into the nation’s rage being pinpointed at a distinguished characteristic that the media has created. Mosley states that the media is feeding the nation with prejudice conceptions in which he thinks it is giving a false impression. Also, there are unseen daily deaths of innocent children that occur all over the world just like Trayvon Martin’s death. If we can see the injustice of the media, then we can move forward or cross that great divide into the world of the 20th century. Mosley Walter concludes that, “the legal system does not care about Trayvon or what happened to him. Dollar signs fuel the media coverage and motivate the Republican governor.” His objective in presenting this argumentative essay is to persuade you to think like he does. Furthermore, the article is biasly opinionated. Mosley has a well written essay that contains great rhetorical devices such as anaphoras, metaphors, and rhetorical questions to grabs the reader’s attention. Although the article presents a well written layout, the creditability is still low. Work citied: Mosley, Walter. "Never argue with a man with a gun." Newsweek 159.16 (2012): 40-42. Ebscohost.com.
